Built in 1901, the Rutherford first housed Rutherford Hardware—a gathering place for Calgary’s early residents, serving those who built homes, planted gardens, and shaped the neighborhood we know today.
Faire Living’s new flagship will be a place where people come to build their own lasting legacy: homes filled with beauty, life, and connection.
For the first time ever, you’ll find all three of our brands united under one roof: Faire Living Home, Known Origin Womenswear, and The Faire Nursery. A place to gather, to linger, to be inspired—and to find pieces crafted with care and intention.
The
neighbourhood
Inglewood was Calgary’s original main street—a gathering place where early communities and tradespeople laid the foundations of a thriving city.
As the railroads expanded and Calgary grew, Inglewood evolved into a vibrant hub for artists, craftspeople, and independent businesses.
Yet even as the city changed, some things have remained beautifully the same: the enduring charm of the heritage buildings, the deep-rooted sense of community, and the legacy of family-owned shops that continue to line these streets.
Today, we’re honored to carry the Rutherford’s story forward—taking our place within this rich tradition of craftsmanship, connection, and independent spirit that has long defined Inglewood.
The
building
Possibly the earliest commercial building still standing on Inglewood’s main street, the Rutherford served for more than a century as both a retail shop and a working space—spending over 60 of those years as a trusted hardware store, followed by 32 years as an antique shop.
True to the spirit of early Inglewood, it was a place built for purpose, craftsmanship, and community.
Through every season of change, the Rutherford’s brick walls have quietly endured—keeping watch as Inglewood grew from a working town into the vibrant heart of Calgary’s independent spirit.
Today, we are honored to add our chapter to its story—continuing a legacy of meaningful work, heartfelt connection, and spaces built to last.
