Marengo Earthenware Lided Pot
A single-serving round pot made in Seto, Japan, with two loop handles and a fitted lid vented to release steam during cooking. The body is glazed in deep mahogany, the lid in warm amber gold. Sized for one generous hotpot or portion of stew, or as a small side dish for a shared meal.
Named for the Marengo dish, said to have been improvised by Napoleon's chef from a few gathered ingredients after the Battle of Marengo and served to him after every battle that followed. Move it from stovetop to table and serve straight from the pot.
