Fukurasuzume Round Bowl

$26.63

Affectionately known as the "plump sparrow bowl," the namesake and inspiration behind this elegant porcelain vessel comes from the Japanese word "Fukura-suzume" meaning a "plump sparrow in the winter."

An auspicious motif in ancient and modern Japanese culture, Marumitsu Poterie's feathery muse can be seen in the delicate, hand-carved feather details that grace the interior and exterior of the dish and in the bowl's wonderfully rounded shape.

A nod to the bowls muse, a sparrow in mid flight is stamped on the bottom of each dish.

Glazed in a soft matte white, the depth of the Fukura-suzum bowl makes it a versatile piece for serving side dishes, dips and spreads, and desserts.

With that said, your joy when receiving any piece from our store is our highest priority. If you would like to see a photo of the exact ceramic item(s) we have in stock, simply reach out to us using the "Chat with us" box located near the bottom right corner of your screen, and we will be happy to assist you.

Since 1950, the artisans of Marumitsu have been creating heirloom-worthy ceramics in Seto, Aichi, Japan's pottery capital.
Here, the oldest kilns in the country continue to burn, keeping alive ancient traditions & sharing the wonders of Japanese ceramics with a new generation of collectors.

Marumitsu's breathtaking creations are known for their nature-inspired silhouettes and nuanced French style.

The thoughtful approach of Marumitsu is made evident in their belief that "meals are delightful." Each piece is created with a deeply intentional perspective to be both aesthetically beautiful and exceptionally functional for daily use.

Incorporating the best of time-honored and modern techniques, master artisans skillfully form Marumitu Poterie's signature pieces from natural clays harvested throughout the surrounding hillsides of Seto.
